Holiday Journey with Afluenté: River Walk

The Tour

The day opens at Mission San José, the Queen of the Missions, then Historic Market Square and Mi Tierra. Choose the San Antonio Museum of Art or the McNay before dusk at the Alamo. Dinner downtown and the River Walk lights close the night.

The tour price does not include museum admission, food and drink.

1. 

   Mission San José1:00 PM

   The Queen of the Missions, part of Texas's only UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk the convento courtyard, then stop at the Rose Window, the most ornate piece of Spanish colonial stonework in North America. Your guide tells the mission as a story of two cultures building something new together.

2. 

   Historic Market Square and Mi Tierra2:20 PM

   The largest Mexican market in the United States, strung with holiday lights. Browse the artisan stalls, then stop at Mi Tierra Café y Panadería, open since 1941, for a pan dulce or a late lunch. Please note food and shopping are paid directly.

3. 

   Art Museum: Your Choice (Museum of Art or McNay)3:40 PM

   Choose one of San Antonio's two great art museums. The San Antonio Museum of Art is a 1904 brewery turned museum, with Latin American art, ancient Egyptian and Roman antiquities, and a view of downtown from the walkway between the two brewery towers. The McNay Art Museum is Texas's first museum of modern art, in a 1920s Spanish Colonial Revival mansion, with European modernists and a sculpture garden. Admission is payable directly to the museum.

4. 

   The Alamo at Christmas5:00 PM

   Alamo Plaza as dusk falls and the holiday display comes on. Your guide gives the story of the mission-turned-shrine and the plaza that grew around it.

5. 

   Dinner Downtown (to be chosen)5:45 PM

   A seated dinner at a downtown or River Walk restaurant. Please note the tour price does not include food or drink.

6. 

   River Walk Lights7:10 PM

   A walk along the Paseo del Río under the cypress-tree lights, with luminarias on luminaria nights.

7. 

   Live Music on the River Walk8:05 PM

   Close the evening with mariachi, jazz or a similar act on the water. Venue to be chosen.
